These black bean flautas are also known as taquitos. They are crispy, rolled-up tacos, filled with a delicious black bean filling. These are the perfect weekday dinner or lazy lunch as they are made with only 7 ingredients and super easy to prep!

What are Black Bean Flautas?

In America, they are mostly known as taquitos. They are a type of taco that is rolled up and they fried in oil to get a crispy outer layer.

They originated in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. They are typically filled with shredded chicken, potatoes, or beans. They are super fun to eat and make for a great weekday dinner or weekend movie night!

Black bean flautas donโ€™t have to be fried in lots of oil. In this blog post, I will share how to make them in the oven, air fryer, and on the stove. You can make them oil-free or lightly brush them with oil.

The best part is that they are only made with 7 main ingredients:

Tips and Substitutes:

Instead of black beans, you can also use pinto or any other type of bean. Iโ€™ve used Peruvian beans and they were delicious!

I highly recommend using corn tortillas for this recipe. Flour tortillas are ok to use but not traditional and have a different taste.

My favorite way to eat them is with guacamole and Tapatio! You can also make homemade salsa. However, I always end up adding Tapatio even if there is salsa because it pairs so well.

To reheat leftovers I donโ€™t recommend using the microwave. Use the oven or air fryer if possible.

3 ways to make Black Bean Flautas

Traditional: Frying in oil

Heat 1/4-1/2 cup of canola or vegetable oil in a pan. Once hot, carefully add 3-4 flautas to the oil and fry for 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Repeat until all flautas are fried.

Oven: Baked flautas

Preheat oven to 400 F. Place flautas on a baking tray and lightly brush with oil (optional). Bake for 16-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Air Fryer: My favorite option!

Lightly brush with oil (optional). Air fry 4-5 flautas at a time at 390 F for 11-12 minutes.

  1. I made this and it was delicious. I added jar jalapenos sliced to it. Not too spicy but turned out great !

  2. Actually, flautas are made with flour tortillas and taquitos are made with corn tortillas. Otherwise they are the same. Some restaurants mix them up too. This recipe looks delicious, I will definitely try it soon1

    1. Wow I had never heard of that before! That makes sense. My mom always called them flautas even though she made them with corn tortillas so that is all I know. Thank you so much for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Made these as a simple weekend lunch. The flavor was out of this world. Easy to make and tastes just like I ordered them from my favorite Mexican restaurant. Highly recommend!
